Safe Families for Children

safe-families-for-children"Safe Families for Children is an opportunity for volunteers to have a powerful impact in the lives of others while practicing biblical hospitality, extending the love of Christ to people in need — all from their own home (www.safe-families.org)!" We have chosen to make this opportunity open to our church because we believe in the mission of it.

Opportunities to Volunteer for the Harvest Safe Families Ministry Team

  • Host Family – accepts one or more children into their home on a temporary basis during a time of crisis or hardship experienced by the biological parents and provides a safe and loving home
  • Resource Family – provides resources such as supplies (diapers, clothing, etc) as well as support (transportation, tutoring, baby-sitting) to assist the Host Family in caring for the child, and commits to prayer for all those involved in the ministry during the placement time.   • Family Coach – ministers to the needs of the biological and Host Family, coordinates care and helps to link the needs of the biological parents with available resources, and helps support (spiritually, emotionally, and socially) the biological parents and the Host Family. 
  • Cycle for Safe Families- Join in on the annual fundraiser on June 9, 2012 in Union, IL. Details to come.

Resource Closet and Curent Supply Needs

Several at-risk children are currently being cared for by Host Families in Rockford and there are many needs. Harvest supporters continue to give clothing, shoes, toys, and more - to God's Resource Closet. You can help by donating various items. View our updated needs list here.

Safe Families/Rockford Needs
• The need for host Safe Families homes is great! If you know of anyone in your congregation who might be interested in volunteering with SF, please feel free to give them the email address or phone number of the SF staff:

• Continue to pray for our current host SF volunteers.  Our host SF have been stretched to the limit as we have placed siblings together in one SF home and as many of the placements have extended into three and four months.  Pray that the host SF will have renewed energy and strength to pour into the lives of our hosted children during this holiday season.  Also, continue to pray for all of the SF volunteers who have lost loved ones in the past few months or have loved ones with chronic health issues. 
• Some exciting conversations are occurring between Safe Families/Rockford staff and directors from other countries who are overseeing ministries similar to the Safe Families model.  Pray for God’s wisdom, guidance, and timing as these staff members consider possibilities for church-to-church connections between the ministries.
