How should I pray?

Every Thursday I'm calling our church to fast as long as we are in the book of Acts.  The fast that I'm calling for is for the purpose of Freedom - freedom from fear.  I believe that individuals within the churches of America (including ours) are enslaved to the fear of men which causes us to stay silent about our faith.  If the statistics are accurate that only 2% of all professing Christians are actively sharing their faith (and I believe that it is), we are enslaved to fear - fear of disturbing our "normal" lifestyles.  This is a serious problem.

We have a mission:

"...you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."  (Acts 1:8b)

Not only must we take this seriously, but we must take it personally, meaning, each of us must obey this command.  If you were the only Christian in your city, would Christianity be extinct after you die?  We must take the mission personally.

To do this we must pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send out workers who are liberated from the fear of men.

Fast and Pray

  • That God would destroy the strongholds of fear that argue against obeying the Lord's command to go public (2 Cor. 10:4-6; Acts 1:8)
  • That God would liberate us from sins that strangle our souls and keep us despairing, feeling unworthy, inadequate, and therefore, unusable for the spreading of the gospel.
  • That God would liberate us from the strife in our families that snuffs out any concern for the lost.
  • That God would liberate us from our attachment to this world and its promises of comfort (Phil. 1:20-24; 1 Jn. 2:15-17).
